I had mixed feelings about the movie. I thought it was by *far* the best comic-book adaptation I've seen, in the sense that it really captured a huge chunk of the style and feel (not to mention the vast majority of the plot & dialogue) of the comic. (Iron Man was a better superhero movie, but it was all movie & not really comic-book).
What became apparent, especially with the dialogue, is that some things that work in comic book form simply *don't* work onscreen. The dialogue was always a little clunky (Moore's often is, which is one reason why I'm suspicious of his rep as a brilliant writer), but coming out of the mouths of actual actors, it really fell flat.
I was also mystified by the change of the ending--the new ending didn't really alter the tone that much (or, actually, it darkened it further, since it killed a *lot* more people), so I can't quite figure out what was up with that.
Rorschach was *great*. And overall, I enjoyed it enough that I'll probably shell out for the big ol' special-edition Blu-Ray when it comes out, *especially* if it comes with 40 minutes of Tales of the Black Freighter footage intercut with the feature.
